TollBudget ("we", "the app") is a toll route finder for Android. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
1. Data We Collect
TollBudget collects the minimum data needed to function:
Location (GPS) — Used only while the app is in use to show your current position on the map, bias search results toward your area, and provide turn-by-turn navigation. We do not collect location in the background and do not store or transmit your location to any server.
Search queries (origin & destination) — Sent to Photon (komoot.io), a free open-source geocoding service powered by OpenStreetMap, to resolve place names to coordinates. No personal identifiers are sent.
Route requests — Sent to OSRM (Project OSRM), a free open-source routing engine, to calculate driving routes. No personal identifiers are sent.
Savings history — Stored locally on your device only using shared preferences. Never uploaded to any server.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
No account, email, or phone number required
No advertising identifiers or tracking pixels
No analytics SDKs (no Firebase, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel)
No crash reporting services
No payment information (the app is free)
No background location tracking
3. Third-Party Services
The app makes network requests to these third-party services:
OpenStreetMap tile servers — Map tiles for the in-app map display. openstreetmap.org
GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com) — App version check on launch. Returns a small JSON file, no personal data sent.
None of these services receive personally identifiable information from TollBudget.
4. Permissions
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION — Used to show your position on the map and bias place search results. Used only when the app is open (foreground). You can deny this permission — the app works without it, but you will need to type your starting point manually.
INTERNET — Required to fetch map tiles, geocode places, and calculate routes.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE — Required by Android to maintain GPS tracking while navigation is active and the screen is on.
5. Children's Privacy
TollBudget is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
6. Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
